Chug, chug, chug - Land Rovers Only

The 2a has been behaving well until last week when it seemed down on power(I use the word "power" in the broadest sense!)
There is a ticking noise from the engine which is hard to identify. Gut feeling suggests it's from the injectors (diesel)
Now even slower and producing lots of smoke.
Any wise diesel sages able to suggest the cause?

My SIII diseasel had a similar problem- a faint 'pinking' noise when under load, low(er) power and lots of smoke (especially when cold).

Took it to the local diesel man and he said the noise was 'injector creak' caused by a) a naff injector or b) a good injector receiving funny fuel.

It turned out one of my injector pipes had split and bent at it's end, which had partly blocked it up and this was causing the injector to spray fuel all over the place inside the engine, instead of a nice fine mist.

A new fuel line (£2) and 10 minutes work solved the problem.

I put some slick 50 i think its called in with my fuel, but have yet to use all the fuel up and see results. - its still slow (40mph) and smoky on start up.

Water in your Diesel tank? Especially if the smoke at startup is white.

Mioght be that some guy sold you diesel with a little rain water in (Without him knowing it)

Take injectors to Diesel specialist. Injectors buggered (just how international is that technical term?)
Refurb. Refit in the dark in sub-zero temperatures. It starts, may be smoother, warms up, goes for test drive. STOPS. Will not re-start. Walk home. Co-opt one of several L-R owning neighbours to tow home. Wait for daylight.

My guess is a bleeding problem!
