I finally managed yesterday to pluck up the courage and tackle the clutch on my sIII diesel. What a complete arse it was to do though. Only way i could do it was to remove the rear and front prop shafts (not difficult), remove the firewall floor round the bellhousing and drivers floor (again not difficult) and then take off the bellhousing bolts, the gearbox mounting bolts and the handbrake linkage (which was a complete twat) Managed to lift the gearbox and slide it off the engine- bit heavy though i think- maybe get a jack next time! The real pest which took ages was trying to get the gearbox back onto the engine- really isn't easy. Getting the spline through the new clutch was ok but trying to get the box to fit over the bolts on the engine side all together is a sod. especially when there is no jack to hand! DOH! I managed to get a military spec clutch ffrom Safari Engineering in Camberley (UK) who were really helpful. Only cost £80 for the kit. d one wgone-e riveta groove into the old pressure plate which would explain the somewhat poor traction! Anyways- if anyone is thinking of doing the same- DO IT- it isn't that bad. You may surprise yourself. Chris
