Hi All,
If you've read this thread in another forum - my apologies - I want as much knowledge as I can get... What are the symptoms of a CV joint failing? Many thanks, Mark HH |

Since you posted this question in the Series section, I am assuming (dumb premise) that you're refering to a series truck: Series trucks do not have CV joints, just universals.
If, on the otherhnd, you are refering to a disco, def, or RR, which do have CVs, the most common symptom of a failing CV is when you hear a 'clicking' noise when rounding corners. The vehicle will not move if the CV failed, unless you lock the center differential. CVs fail in any fashion from the quiet to the explosive, the worst being when it also destrys the swivel housing from debris caught between the inner, rotating section, and the inner wall of the housing. since a series truck transfer case is essentially always locked ( there is no differential in the transfer case) You can still drive when a U joint fails, but, then again, that's pretty rare event. |
