Default Diesel Conversion

Hey guys,
I am once again looking into a diesel conversion for my landie, and have been looking around, and was just wondering what the deal is with the disco 2.5L diesels, the 4cyl that is. can you put those into a series 3, and is it worth it? I was thinking of maybe the whole drive train. I was just looking on the auction site and there is a 94 disco in the damaged vehicle auction. Or do you think I should just wait for an isuzu diesel.
Thanks for your help,
Dick

Have a look at nilhans post that dips in to TDi conversions,I wouldnt put any thing more powerfull than a TDi in a series simply because the brakes arent up to the job otherwise, the engine/box assembly from a disco is to long for an 88 unless you got a 90/110 bellhousing for the box

I'v been looking at the Perkens diesel conversion. It's a easy bolt in (after you buy the kit) conversion. It's a 2.0L turbo. a friend of mine is doing one now and going to let me drive it after he's done. You can do a search on google and read more about it

Yes the 2.0l perkins prima TD is a fantastic little engine Ive had a couple in rover montego estates reliability is unsurpassed as is economy maybe a little noisy but not as noisy as a tdi didnt know some had made it to the U.S. excellent engines are getting a little thin on the ground here as most montegos have gone to the big rover factory in the sky watch for head gasket failure (usually occurs at 400k on a well maintained lump)other than that not a lot goes wrong one of the best small diesel engines ever built!!!

Thanks or that guys, I actually just picked up an ex army landie over the weekend. $800, My gearbox has just given up the ghost and thought, for $800, will just use the gearbox from this one and rebuild the other when I have time. It also has a pto winch, which was pretty cool, but unfortunately, I cant use it on my good one, and am considering selling it. Anyone want it? So this will keep my going for a while, until I find one of these perkins or an isuzu maybe. With the 2L diesel though, isn't that a bit small? Whats the max speed, and on the beach, how does it go, as I do a lot of beach driving?

pretty much equivalent to a 2.5 lr diesel the 2l prima turbo d works really well with the low gearing of a series box I think the 2l is rated at 82 bhp so 70 mph should be achievable happilly as it is a higher revving lump than the l/r n/a diesels
