Ok, first post as a Series owner - was finally able to make the trip down with the trailer for the truck I bought over a month ago!
Question - is it normal for one to find a lot of unconnected wires and whatnot under the hood of a Series? I'm not complaining, I figure it's all a part of the fun but I was curious. So far under the hood I've found a 10mm Vanadium Spanner (it actually says Spanner on it!,) a spare cap for the Girling Fluid reservoir (whatever that stuff is,) and what appears to be the old Lucas Coil stashed to the right of the steering box. Anyway, already having tons of fun, look forward to picking y'alls brains when I run into problems ... which I'm sure I will ... after all, it's a Rover right?

Congratulations on the purchase of a "real Rover"
(oh I'm going to get crap for that one.... ) Where are the pics, what year, model???? As for the girling fluid... it is a vegetable based brake fluid (castrol LMA break fluid is a name for it here....). It has no silicone in it, which tends to eat the rubber in seals and master cylinders... usually there are two caps, one for the brakes and one for the clutch... the clutch one is kinda tucked under the nearside wing beside the brake master cylinder... As for the wires, well, lets just say, after years and years of different owners, you can never tell what is going on with the electrics, and even if they are still all stock, it is a Lucas system, so no bets on wether anyone can figure it out.... lol Any questions, post away, that is what these forums are for... congratulations.....

Okay, he's kind of a Frankenstein at the moment, and we're not sure exactly the approach we're going to take so here we go - 1973 Series III 88 hard top RHD, standard 2.25 petrol engine, D90 door tops, 109 roof rack (I'll explain), 33 inch tires on what appear to be American Racing rims, negative earth electrics, Ford Mustang seats, stereo,cb radio, Hella 500 up front, Hella rectangular whites in the rear, large tool box mounted in the rear tub, and I think that about covers it. The truck was originally purchased from original owner by TNLR, who had it shipped to the states and then sold it to the person I bought it from, who had the vehicle from 2004 onward. The PO used it as a weekend run-about truck, some light off-roading and just kind of a fun truck to cruise around in on the weekends from what I gather. He didn't appear to be real concerned with aesthetics, something we are, so we'll be looking at tackling a lot of the smaller, fine-tune issues, aside from the mechanicals. The TNLR owner had a roof rack from a 109 which had rolled and the front end of the rack was bent. The PO purchased it cheap, cut the front end off and welded lighting tabs there and I'll be damned, it looks pretty good. We're having some issues starting her though at the moment. When I picked it up there was no fire and PO said it was a new battery but she'd been sitting for a while, so after a good jump she came to life and drove just fine. After the 550 mile haul home sitting on a trailer, again, could not get her to fire. After quite some time with her hooked up to my DII she finally fired and I drove her around the blocks a few times before pulling her into the drive. Over the weekend there were times when she fired right up, and now I feel the battery is drained again. I have a sneaky suspicion that something is hard-wired wrong somewhere and I've got a positive drain on the battery. I'm going to get the battery checked, and if that's not the problem I'll work my way into the engine bay. That's it for now. I've removed a lot of stuff, cleaned a lot of stuff of, but I'm really just cracking the surface. My signature link will be a lot more detailed. Thanks for the support fells!
