SO.. I finished painting .. currently reassembling.
Came out better than I expected, worse than I hoped. I'm not much of a painter. But the paint stuck on well. I will post up the part numbers for the paint/prep I used for others reference. Painting wasn't all that bad in its self. But cleaning .. sanding.. cleaning, cleaning.. painting.. cleaning sanding cleaning.. painting cleaning painting cleaning.. UGH... Still.. better than a roller or rattle can.. and i've done both. Its got a finish that's uv resistant and hard enough to clean without scratching it all up.. like rattle can paint does. (i'll edit later.. from memory) ALL products are martin senour "NAPA" brand of sherwin williams auto products. I used a product called "twin etch" to clean and prep the metal ce430 etch primer 15222 2k High build primer something "gold" single stage paint. with a medium slow reducer.. due to heat and my turbine sprayer being warmer than compressor. ( something very near pastel green they actually pulled up the code and had it in their mixer) Used "rust bullet" followed by 15222 on the steel parts. All shot through my graco 3 stage turbine sprayer and 1.3mm tip. Instead of the ce430 and 15222... a direct to metal DTM primer could be used. But it is only sold in gallons at both NAPA and S-W. the 15222 needs to be put over something other than bare steel/aluminum. DTMs obviously go direct to metal. Now I've got it 3/4 reassembled at least its movable now. Put down "camper tape" under edges of the floor boards to take down the vibration noise and seeping through the floor noise. Sure beats the bathroom caulk that some PO had stuck in there.

Silicon sealer is an aviation trick. If done correctly you apply a good bead to the flange and then apply a skim of grease to the mating panel. It provides a perfect seal and because of the grease it comes apart easily if you have to remove the panel at any time. It's cheap, can be replaced easily and works a charm.

silicone sealer is not what I had.. It was caulk. paintable house caulk. Its an old "rv" trick to use silicone like that too. More or less like RTV..
This almost destroyed the seat box trying to get it out. It was dried hard HARD. TOok a chisel to get it off. What gets silicone off anyway? Its pretty inert stuff. I've never tried to get parbond off something.. but i've had a hell of a time getting "automotive goop" off paint. I'll get some pics when its assembled fully and out of the garage. It just looks like a land rover with paint. Though I am curious as to what people think of the color.. is it pastel green? What I had was painted at least 3 different times and oxidized to high hell I don't know what it looked like originally. I think mine has less blue in it though.

By the way.. took the paint off with TAL STRIP II.. WOrked well on the house paint and what I think was the original paint. Bubbled off and rinsed away. The most recent urethane single stage turned to glue. Some other stuff.. came off like mud, revealing an epoxy? black paint... which came up pretty well.
SO.. anyone know the process that put paint on there to begin with? There was no discernible primer but the panels were "gold" colored after taking off the original paint.

pre So.. how close to pastel green is that. Its a little dark in the picture.. its a shade or 2 lighter in person. Yes it has some errors.. like the mirrors are wrong.. and the paper fell off the tip of the muffler half way through painting and I didn't fix it. The seats aren't in cept for the drivers and one of the footman's loops in the back isn't attached for the hood strap. Ignore the horrible prep work on the hood. Its hell sanding around rivets and on the hot hot day I painted the hood, I got horrible overspray and orange peel in the primer. Nice thing about the pic is.. its small enough and dark enough to make the panels look straight.. What you cant see in the PRE picture is that the hood and fenders were grey. All the paint was off the fender tops leaving it a surprisingly similar color to the faded pastel green. By the by I think I can trace all my mechanical faults starting to occur when i jokingly named the truck "Carl Rover"
