Default First Series Truck

Just picked up my first series truck (2nd Landy) this Saturday. Pretty excited but didn't know if their is a way to find out some of the history on the specific vehicle. He didn't have any history on it in regards to where it was from. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to find any.

Default start verifying the VIN

Welcome to the Oil-Drippers club... well done, looks in great shape.

On history, first start is with your VIN #, assuming the one listed on the Ownership is correct (enclosed link here takes you to a great doc to check the frame location/front springer hanger - Internet Land Rover Club Series One Two and III chassis numbers), then you can search from there a number of sources online... did you get a Used Car Vehicle Report (Carfax)?

Default More VIN info

Hi,

That looks like a S2 built before 1962 eg. could be a 1961 or older. As already said the VIN number in this case only 9 digts (if I remember well) will tell you when it was built. Also take a look here

Land Rover FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions - Home

and here you just need to input your VIN and it tells you what it is

Sounds great! Very happy with her so far. I will check out the links and see what I can dig up. I will use the cvin that's on the title and check tomorrow if they match up. Appreciate the info, and I am sure this will be one of many inquiries. Thanks.

Model: Land Rover, Series IIA
The Vin pulled up this info:
Body type: Basic or Station wagon
Wheel base: 88in
Engine: petrol
Model years: 1962-1971
Destination: Export, left-hand drive (LHD)
02619 Serial number
A Design: Unmodified
Suffix used on SIIA from October 1961 till March 1963, and on SIII from 1971 till 1973
I am assuming there is no way to find out where she started her life and where she has been?

Thanks man...it has been on my list for a while and have been searching hard. Finally found one that was exactly what I was looking for and pulled the trigger. Good luck in your search. Only had her for a couple of days now but it is a boat load of fun. Problem is I am already lookin for pieces and parts to restore her.

Hi,

May I ask for the 3 first numbers of your VIN ?

Here on this page you can trace to where it was first exported

Good Luck

first 3 #s are 244. I am trying to maneuver through the site and understand the numbers, but a bit lost. Thanks for the help.

Just an FYI, technically those years didn't have VIN's, they were serial numbers.

Hi,

Thanks. If you go to this page Land Rover FAQ: Series, Production Data: 24400000

You can see all serial numbers starting with 244 and to where they went, but there is a gap and your 5 last digits do not appear ¿?

There is a gap in time from Dec 1961 to June 1962 into which your number 02619 would fit ...

No original invoice available ? Here in Mexico the original invoive travels along with the car.

The former owner has to endorse the invoice (transfer ownership by signing the original invoice) to the next owner. I still have my Originalinvoice from 1961 with 6 or 7 signatures on it.
