Question Fitting Defender Axels & Diff on a S111

Hi,

Is it possible to fit complete Defender axels (front and rear) complete with Diffs on a S111 ?

I intend retainng the leaf springs.

What obstacles will I have to overcome?

Prop Shaft length to be shortened?

Regards

Nilhan

Front axle, all the steering components have to be modified.
Axle casings have to be reinforced to accept the leaf springs (no mounts on the defender axles), remove the mounts for the coils, install shock mounts on the casings....
Rear axle, remove sway bar fittings.

And that is just what I can come up with off the top of my head.

What is the purpose of this? if you are going to put defender axles under, most do it so they have coils, not just leafs. If it is for the disc breaks then you probably would be better going with a disk brake conversion (ROcky Mountain makes one)

also the gearing will be taller and the axle is wider so it may require some trimming. Gordo

I have discovery axles on my 200 tdi IIA 109 sw. I cut all the brackets off the axle tubes, and welded spring perches for a dana 60 on. the shock mounts need to be added to the rear axle on a 109 but otherwise your all set. The drag link needs to be either lengthened 2" some how. i just unthreaded the ends a little. And the tie rod needs to be have the steering dampener mount cut off, and the rod its self has to be bent slightly to clear the leaf springs. Other than that enjoy the disc brakes and stronger axles. If you have a stock engine you should change gearing.

I have pics but not at school, I will get them this weekend. The engine is definatly worth the money. the onl;y mount you have to change is the RH front. this mount needs to be a lower. then remove the battery box mount, fabricate new radiator and inter cooler mounts, cut the back off the radiator support, use a electric fan (I never need turn mine on), and space the steering box out 3/4 of an inch away from the turbo down pipe. The disco axles are definatly worth it, but with the lower 200 tdi eninge mount you need longer front shackles. then your all set.

Default Lockers

Did the Disco axles come with a factory locker option?

Mini truck or Cruiser axles.

This is the way to go,

Cheaper
Stronger
More gear ratios avialable
More traction options (Lockers)

There is even a conversion you can do for series and coiler axles to use the same tubes but toyota internals.

I dont know the feesability for you Nilhan since the shipping for the kit to Sri Lanka would be expensive, but i know they have toyotas galore over there.

but now-a-days.. everyone wants toyota axles, and junk yards aren't keeping the parts they used to. People tend to think they have something special and charge for it.
Luckily a vehicle with a crappier frame than a land rover was the toyota pickup till the tacoma or so ~94 ish. So there's a lot of busted ones out there. That everyone wants for their isuzu and geo swaps.

And it would be a shame to kill an FJ for its axles.
