Default Fixing A Leaky Fuel Tank

Hello all. My son and I were out testing a new course when I lightly bottomed out on a rock and put a small leak ( a drip a second) on the bottom of the fuel tank. I have yet been able to locate the source of the leak, but am wondering if those 2 part epoxy putties (petroleum proof) actually works on tiny punctures. What product(s) would you recommend for this repair. YES...I KNOW SKID PLATES ARE NEEDED !! Thanks guys. Tom

I would never trust my own or my families' safety to a patch, IMHO. It would be much safer to replace the tank to be on the safe side. Check with Ike at Pangolin for a puncture proof fuel tank skid at a reasonable price. Pangolin 4x4

Ha, I believe the banter thrown between us before the fateful bottoming out were "I don't know if I have the clearance" to which you, as my guide, responded "Don't worry about the clearance, just do it."

Absolute bummer all the same, though.

I've had good luck with the jb weld putty on various repairs don't remember for positive if it was good for fuel but I think it was.

If not you can drop it clean it out and see about having it welded.

Make sure to get the fumes out though or it could be very interesting.

Just wanted to let you know that i took your advice and called Ike this evening. He is sending out the skid plate and RoversNorth will be sending out the new tank and parts. Thanks for the tip on Pangolin. Guy was pretty cool. Priced right for 3/16" thick plate. Tom

CELLULARARREST...can you put together a list of other rover sites that you and your dad are happy with and post it to the SNHLR site? That would be helpful to all of us!!! Thanks. Tom

Col; LOL! Man it is funny to hear that somebody took my advice on a Rover site. My areas of expertise are SCUBA and Boating. But when it comes to a safety issue, I'm happy you went with the safest option. Ike is an awesome guy, and has given me so much excellent advice on Series on Dweb. Because of that advise, as I build up my IIa, I am going to buy every part he offers. Except for a fuel tank skid, ironically. I decided to put in a fuelsafe cell in my bed instead. I do at least one gas tank replacement at work a month, and this week alone I have overseen two. The best bet with fuel is always replacement over repair. Stay safe. And good luck. When I fly home to Derry next Xmas, I'll have to look you and cellular up. See if my mom's Freelander can keep up with you. lol.

Freakin' MIGHTY PUTTY for the win!
I see this crap everyday on a TV commercial on the DIY Network.

Okay just kidding. Replace that sucker.

And NEVER take XtremeMarine's advice....ooops too late.
Xtreme has take one too many hits from the pugil sticks when he was in boot camp. Seriously, his mom drives a Freelander...do I need to say more?

Who loves ya more than me?

All right OkieFenokee.

Why do I have to, or feel that I have to defend myself daily on Rover sites??? LOL!

Semper Paratus! Marine, as in water. Not as in Gyrene. Although a couple of the DI's at Cape May were ex Parris Island DI's.

LMAO! Yes, I talked my mother into a Freelander. Brokered the deal, and ordered the truck and option packages for her. She's not the SUV type. My entire life she drove VW/Audi products. Mostly Jetta's and 4000 Quattro's. But when she bought her retirement property, she wanted to drive the fire roads before she started building on it. And I wasn't going to let her buy a CRV, or RAV4, or Suzuki. She wanted a cute-ute.

At least I got her into a Rover, didn't I. Now her next one is going to be a HSE LR2, or a base RRS. I feel that I've done my part to keep the marque in the US. LMAO!!!

Semper Paratus?
You're....one of them?
Well good. That makes sense now. LOL.

You are a lot of fun when you get going.

Sorry about the pugil stick comment, I know now the closest thing to a pugil stick you saw in boot was a mop, but I still love ya.

My buddy was a....Paratus. He was station in Hawai'i back in the 90s. Fire direction control on that one big boat you guys have. I can't remember the name...
Bill Cordray. I'm sure he was a legend among you guys...or at least he told us he was.

Hmmm, sounds like a case of CG envy, not having a POINT something patroling the coasts of Oklahoma.
