Default Free wheeling hubs

I have free wheeling hubs on my 67 88". Everytime it sits for a couple days there is a oil spot underneath the hubs. Do I need to get a hub rebuild kit? Any answers will be helpful.

Cheers

Depends on exactly where the oil is leaking from. sometimes you can just remove the free wheel hub, pull the big nut, insert a new felt washer, and reassemble.

Also keep in mind, if a Rover is not leaking something, it is out of something.....

Unless the rig is gushing oil I would not worry about it. Just keep your diff topped off and get to it in the winter or when you have some down time. But if you want to fix it now. just unbolt the hub assemly completely, have a bucket handy for the 90wt that will come out, clean the mounting surfaces with solvent or gassoline and let them dry, then dab aircraft type gasket goo on said surfaces and put it back together. It should only take a day or so to do. Have fun :lol .

This is timely and on topic for my 109"

My locking hubs are leaking too. I talked with the guys over in VT at DAP (where I bought them) and they suggested that my axle breather is likely clogged and creating enough pressure to blow the gear oil out the axle tube, into the swivel ball and through the hub.

Start there...it is easier than tearing your hubs apart. If you do need a hub service kit, DAP said they can get them for $29 USD.

Ah...the smell of gear oil...

You mean everyone does not pull their breathers and clean them every oil change

Oh...you are supposed to change the oil?
I thought the rate of leaking and top offs made it unnesseary
