Does anybody know the factory gear ratio for an SIII Ex-MOD 109" with a salisbury rear end? Also, where is the best place to get aftermarket gears for this particular vehicle. I want to go with bigger tires next time, but it already seems to have its hands full with the factory sized tires (7.50x16). I would like to go with something along the size of these in this pic.
P.S. I am back in the hunt for a truck cab for it also. Just a side note, I prefer to trade if possible for the truck cab. |

That looks like Brutus, JL's truck in Ottawa. The reason he can get away with those tires is the fact that he has a turbo Cummin's engine under the hood and Toyota HD axles......
Brutus surely is a great name for that truck as it truely is a brute. No finesse in that truck, just put the hammer down and move anything out of your way...

The rear is similar to a Dana 60 and gears of various ratios can be had for that. The trouble is the front Rover-style diff. Not much available for that, though with that size tire or bigger it wouldn't matter much. A Rover-style diff will handle those tires for about 10 minutes. You need to consider either a Toyota conversion or try to find a front Salisbury.

Those tires look even bigger than the 35x10.5x16's going on my SIIa. Holy cow. Try Bill Davis at GBR in SLC, for your gearing options, as well as HD axle components for series trucks.

Yep, sorry. Great Basin Rovers. Bill Davis is the owner. A GOD when it comes to Series trucks. He is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, all rolled into one.

FJ40 and FJ60 axles under Rovers can handle 50-75% more HP and Torque, than the standard LR parts. If you put in better ring and pinions, chromemoly axles, and related items, like Birfields, Toyota axles are virtually indestructible in Rover Series trucks.
The FJ40 axles overall length is less than an inch off of a Series. And the FJ60 is only less than two inches wider.

You can install Toyota differential assemblies in a Rover housing and re-shaft them. You would use V6/Turbo style diffs with electric lockers. Not a very cheap conversion but you could run 42's on that truck without breaking anything.
Here's an explanation: Toyota differentials jim
