Default how to destroy a new engine

new to forum but wanted to share my mistake. Spent months finding and assembling a motor for my series III. fired it up, ran very well. I was happy. except the green oil pressure light would come on when I revved it up, but was off at idle. I thought green must be good, why would a warning light be green?

engine seized after a half hour of driving. oil pump was bad.

bearing are shot but hopefully I won't have to take engine out and start over. we'll see.

This is my first land rover and I am starting to wonder why I wanted it for so many years.

Great site, I should have signed up when I was wondering about a green warning light!

Sorry to hear about that. Don't give up on the old landy though. She's just testing you. More like a crash course, it just skipped the small problems and jumped to the big one.

You did put the little piece that goes under the distributor in didn't you, the one that drives the oil pump? Almost looks like a spacer and the dizzy can only fit down in it in one direction.

a new oil pump fixed that problem, It was an odd way for a pump to go. I think I used up all the pieces in the boxes that my motor came in!

I will never take over a project that someone else took apart. Unless I have done it before. This has been an expensive education in land rover motors. I'll quit comparing it to an old CJ7 someday soon.
