Default I am pounding the crap out of that thing

I'm just venting.

I've been trying to drift out the brake servo to brake lever pin for the last 2 hours.

I'm about to go out and get some propane... Trying the oven first as I really don't feel like going out.
Nothing like the smell of burning paint and oil..

If you ever plan on replacing your brake parts.. make sure you keep those seals on the pedal box. Mine were gone and the parts are as good as welded.

I think the lines get blurred around here... is it the lounge, or is it the series forum, or is it the series lounge..... who knows....

ha.. the wife, who seldom cooks.. its my kitchen if I want good food... powered up the oven today.. I came in.... "did you leave the iron on the ironing board?"
"NO.. ITS STILL LEFT OVER FROM YOU BAKING ROVER PARTS!!!"

Ha ha.. It cleared up after the first few minutes.

SO, put on my servo today. Bigger hammer didn't really do the trick properly.
When I got the pin out, the end of it was both peened over a bit AND bulged out a bit from all the pounding. Had to file it back to shape. ALSO, it bent my pedal. Of course I couldn't notice it till trying to put it back together and the pin wouldnt line up.
SO, I Popped a cylindrical pry bar into the hole and pried it a bit. Which slipped and broke my clutch line.
I fixed the clutch line (for how long I dont know but the fixtures on it are british right? will they adapt properly if I get parts at the store?

ANYWAY.. its all back together now.. more work than it needed to be. Its getting liberally greased. I also filed out the holes so it wouldnt fit quite so tightly.
Now I just need to check/rebuild all the wheel cylinders.. and i'll be stopping like a pro.
No brakes didnt stop me from trying out my distributor adjustments. I think it'll make 60+ now. Its amazing.. everything i buy is always set roughly TDC and running for crap and way to hot. eventually I notice the timing is way off and just "eyeball" the thing for a 50% hp gain.

I ought to start checking that first. Why do people always eff with the damn timing.

Anyway.. alls well that ends well. Was thinking about selling boxes on what would fail next. I'm skeptical as to getting it fully road worthy by fall..
If I can get the dam title.. stupid hawaii... "its pre 1981 so we need to see the vin number in person and take a rubbing for investigation" BS.

It's easy to take a vin rubbing on a series. Outboard of the front spring hanger, on the passenger side, if it's LHD.

I looked, I see no trace of it. I'm not sure what you mean by outboard.. I assume you mean on the outboard side directly near the front spring hanger. I'm hoping he's happy with the vin on the door pillar. As who knows, the other might not match. That would cause more grief than I'm willing to put up with. I've had friends who got shafted on cars here in hawaii before because the guy sold the car, signed the title, but in the wrong spot. then left the island, and didn't send in the "title transfer receipt" bit. They said there was no way to get rid of the car at all. Couldnt scrap it or title it without a title. He bought a shell and swapped all the parts over then chopped it up and brought it to the recycler.
Lot of work.

Its possible the vin number is there and I can't find it, the car has a serious undercoat on it. If the guy is unhappy with the vin on the door for some reason, i have a chisel waiting to take off the undercoat in the area quickly.

I'm thinking the car may have a different engine in. Its got the push on oil breather on the fill tube, I saw pictures of another with a twist on cap style. It also has some what I assume are pollution controls missing. The tube in the intake is clamped shut and there's a plug on the side of the oil fill.

FYI the undercoat is sticking well contrary to what waxoyl salesmen will tell you., not catching water like some claim.. Where i've chipped it off (with my hammer testing for weak spots) it revealed shiny paint. And a scoping of inside the frame reveals a light patina, no flakes. and much of that patina, after my camera scrapes it, reveals paint.. its just dirt. Be nice to wash all that out of there.

Yes, outboard, as in towards the outside. Sorry, I'm a boat guy. Directly in front of the front tire, slightly above, and forward, of where the shackle attachment point is. About 1/4 inch tall numbers and letters, put in with a punch set. Scraping to reveal it could damage. Be better to get some industrial paint remover, then clean off residual with something like acetone. Once numbers are verified, re-applicate waxoyl or por-15.

nah.. I mean with my wood chisel, just slide off the crap..
It'll be fine. THe stuff is on there so thick, even "aircraft remover", if it will even effect undercoat, would take many applications.

SO, guy came out and looked at the title.
Says.. Its ok.. but.. one of the numbers was wrong. No big deal, it was just one number.. probably got misread somewhere along the way. It's just fine.

Well I've looked at the vin and the title a dozen times. They are the same.

So I said... no the first number is a 2 on the title as well.. not a 3 (as he had told me it read)

he says, "no, its a 3, but it's fine". so i go in and get the title,
Sure enough the title says "2". "LOOK ,Its a 2 on the title."
He said, "no, that's a 3, but it'll be ok, just give the dmv, this form"
I look at the form, say, "thats a 3?", "yes, but its fine, it happens all the time"..
"whatever guy, thanks"

I don't know what his problem was. But it worked out alright.

Zed, is it a SIIa 88"? If so, it should start with a "244".

Funny, shite-head at DMV. The damn guy probably realized he messed up, and didn't want to look foolish, so just kept going with it. LOL!

But will it cause you a problem if you ever sell it? I'd make someone else correct it.
