Hi
A 1997 would be a Discovery 1 not a series 1 .
Series 2 (discovery series2) were introduced part way through 1999 and produced until 2004

Neither should be confused with a Land Rover Series 2 whichever were produced 1958 -1961 or a series 2A which were produced 1962 - 1971

So if you have a 1997 you have a discovery 1

Honestly they where just called "Discovery" without any suffix until the Discovery "Series II" came along. Bastards......

SD is a base model without sunroofs, rear air, rear jump seats and front facia fog lights and that's it. SD's normally came with manual cloth seats and no wood trim inside. Mine came in Altai Silver with a gray interior to include powered gray leather seats and dark walnut wood trim. Disco Sport is a new model. There's nothing sporty about a Disco except maybe stopping quickly, that is a sport. Takes two feet on the pedal and lift the butt off the seat while holding on for dear life until you smell smoke.

But then the confuse you more in that the original Land Rover was called just that and then they made the series 1.
