Default newbie: Should I buy a series as a daily driver?

Im looking at trading my 05 chevy pickup at a local Land Rover dealer for a 1973 Series III 109" 12 pass. wagon. The only thing that the dealer has done is rebuild the carb, clean the fuel lines, and replaced the fuel pump. I have always wanted a series Land rover but Im curious if this is a good move. What all should I look at when checking it out? And what problems should I be on the look out for using it as a daily?

If you have to ask the question you may not want to.

1. are you mechanically inclined?
2. are you able to do with out creature comforts like a/c, power steering, power brakes, etc....
3. do you have patience?
4. do you care about MPG's (even in the smallest amount)
5. is your significant other able to withstand it? (only applicable in certain situations/types of significant others)

I have a SIII 88 as my DD, and i love it. But if i wasnt able to diagnose its problems, and perform PMCS (preventive maintenance checks and services) on a regular basis it would be a POS.

Just like any other "classic" it requires TLC, and lots of it.

If you are able to deal with the above, go for it....

most I've dealt with have issues with 65 mph add to that the one he's looking at is a 109 and it may be slower yet.

I'll take your word for it though as you live with one on a daily basis and I live with a RRC

Mmmm trading a 05 Chevy for a series truck. (unless the seriess truck is in amazing condition, or the Chevy is very poor, then the dealer is getting the better deal.) What is the purpose of the truck mainly. Daily driver, weekend runabout, offroader?
Series are great trucks, but they have thier issues if you read any thread on this forum, you will see. If you are afraid to get down and dirty with the engine, frame, body work then probably you are going to need a thick pocket book. Parts are cheap tho, it just gets to the point where you feel like you are changing a part every weekend.. lol

I just dont go over 65

It will do 70 but she sounds like she wants to come apart. I need an OD or a 5 speed tranny.

I've had my 88" up to 88, though I usually cruise 65-70 on the highway, sometimes 75.

Well, at the moment I have a non-Rover engine, but when I got to 88 it was all Rover, with OD of course, and I would cruise to Moab at 70ish. 88 was of course down a hill.
