Default Odd transmission help needed!

Greetings,

Need Help with odd transmission!

Still have not found a bottom PTO for my hydrowinch.

I was installing an overdrive in this series iia, when
I took off the hydro winch pto I assumed from the directions that this OD bolted right up to the original transmission. Instructions said two hours, However the shaft on my transmission is longer and wider than what it shows in the book and thus will not accommodate the OD without taking the trans apart and replacing the whole main shaft. Is it possible because It came with this hydrowinch that the trans would have been heavier duty? It obviously is a larger heavier duty transmission in this diesel 88 than is normal. Does anyone know of this transmission and is there an overdrive that fits this one specifically or do I have to hunt a normal trans. This is getting to be to much!!!!!...........and still havnt found the guy with the bottom PTO for the hydrowinch.

Thanks for any help,

John IV

Greetings,

Im trying to install a Fairey OD. I bought it as a package already installed on a complete trans from a 1970 2a. thought it would fit mine exactly as I bought it. When I compare the two transmissions together the one in my 88 is defenently has larger components in the case. Some one mentioned that my trans came out of larger ton1/4 truck or something LR produced and was somewhat rare in a S288, any thoughts? I will post the serial number on the trans tommorrow.
thanks again!

It's possible someone fitted a 1-ton gearbox to your 88. If you can, post some photos of the inside of the transfer case where the OD fits.
If it turns out you have a 1-ton gearbox, I'd be interested in it for the 1-ton LWB I'm building. I have several spare gearboxes that are appropriate for your '70 2a.

According to old data I have, the Series IIa 1 ton gearbox was an option for the 88", especially if any PTO's were fitted. Do you have the gearbox number? Looks like a really rare vehicle you have, special build. Its not Highway yellow under neath/body color is it?
