Default Ok, before I break something...

... can anyone tell me how to safely remove the gear shift knob ('81 SIII petrol) from the lever in a manner in which it can be (properly) reattached? It's not mentioned in the Green Book. I'm not sure if it unscrews, or just pulls off or if there is a pin holding it on.
Just wondering.

I don't believe there's any pin.

I'd pull it up, twisting counter-clockwise as you go- it should either unscrew or pull off.
