Must depend on the OD. I have a Toro and have used it quite a bit in low
range. I don't baby my Rover off-road either as reported in the last Rovers
North News. I have busted many a halfshaft, including 2 24 spline shafts,
stripped teeth off my ring gear, yet my OD survives.

"Jim consistently and fervently finds the most arduous line over an
intimidating obstacle and tackles it effortlessly and proficiently without
doing harm to his Land Rover. He takes his 88” anywhere legally
permitted with great finesse. Sounds like the ideal trail leader to
me! My friend Michael described him as: “that man has no respect for
his Rover and beats the hell out of it every opportunity he gets, taking
the most difficult line over each and every obstacle.”

I have a '64 88" with the RM OD, but it has yet to see pavement or a trail at
my hands.

I am not looking to make a speed demon out of her, just really not wanting to slow down my peers too much while they wait for me.

Hell, I guess those disco and rangie guys can just sit around and wait for me then! Thanks for the input and you are right, it's rover time when you get there.

Ok now we know the problem, dont worry about overrevving the old 2.25 you cant the pump will limit upper rpm limit, the trouble with old series motors and 2.25 diesels is the lack of soundproofing this gives the impression that the engine is screaming due to the amount of noise and vibration caused by the old oil burner.

These engines will rev hard all day long with no problems they will only rev to around 4000 rpm anyway my advice would be to concentrate on sound proofing concentrating on bonnet (hood),bulkhead, gearbox tunnel, inner wings, seat box and door panels.

good oil is the key with the old lump but nowt modern they dont like it keep it simple (cheapo mineral oil is the best changed every 3000) find the cheapest oil you can get your hands on as it will be to a lower spec than the expensive stuff, dont try running a 1950s engine with thin modern oil it just doesnt do the job in an old motor

Thanks Onlsow. Makes sense. It's not like Robb, Griff, and I will be entering any races anytime soon!

Terry - if she ever goes out, that'll be what I do!

Jim - that's funny, just read that article last night as a matter of fact! Btw.... who carries the Toro OD?

No one carries it any more, or parts for that matter
