I would like to use it as a DD and overland rig...the biggest mods would be an overdrive and a Sals rear.

How can I perk this engine up???

Dude, nice 109! and it'll be ace when you have spent some time on it.

If you want pics of a 2.25 diesel engine just ask. I have a SIIA 2.25 diesel 88" truckcab pickup at home. Also have workshop and parts manuals!!

Uh, I don't want to discourage you, but trying to perk up a 2.25 oil burner is like trying to pi$$ in the wind. If it were me, I'd yank it and put a 2.25 petrol engine in it's place. While everybody thinks they want a diesel, what gave them that idea was something more akin to a 200Tdi, not a singer sewing machine motor.

Ignore all of the above if you're happy topped out at 45-50.

Hmmm! Well it really depends on what you want to do with the truck once you get it fella. We use our 2.25 diesel around the farm, it doesn't need to be speedy, in fact on the fields slow is good for the soft ground. If travelling long distances, I mean stuff further than a couple of hours away, you may want to reconsider the 2.25 diesel. With and overdrive you are realistically looking at 45-50mph, it won't go any faster even if you wanted it too! The good thing about the deisel lump is that it just keeps on going and going and going. Run out deisel! shove some cooking oil in there!

As for perking it up, uhhhhh no, no point as the man says. It has enough grunt as standard to pull the 109 plus trailer, but it'll never be a race horse, just a work horse!!!

I started the cleanup/teardown earlier. Found parts of the interior where the original paint is still in BRAND NEW condition. Put an adjustable wrench on the crank shaft nut and hoped for the best....it turns over smoothly! All the seats are out and doors are off.

I'm going to stop here until I get my workbench and drawer systems so I can keep everythign organized and keep the work place tidy.

Also, would an overdrive and a regear fix the speed issue or is there no way to get up to highway speeds on a 2.25 diesel.

I atleast want to get to 70, but will settle for 65

The good paint is located all over the interior. Here are two examples.

And the rear corner...

Bronze Green.. classic Land Rover colour.... wanted to paint mine that, but as the original colour was the pastel green, decided to revert it back to that....

if you need paint codes to match.. here is our club sites paint codes, yours is listed as Bronze Green...

No afraid not. Not even with an overdrive and RRC diffs in, youll never get there. If you want those speeds you are going to have to start thinking about V8ing it or replacing with a bigger diesel engine, a 2.5 tdi or equivalent Jap lump, Daihatsu and nissan lumps work well.
