Then I'll plan for a 200 later in the trucks life. For now, I want to keep the rebuild as simple as possible and I'll just settle for 50..lol I'm very patient and all I would need to do is adjust my departure times.

Don't you dare put a non LR engine in that thing. Even with a 2.25 petrol you will only see around 65 tops from a 109SW. My buddy has a 64 109 here in town with an overdrive and he slows traffic down when he tries to pull some of the hills on the way to work. I got lucky with my 109, it'll do 90+ all day long, but it has a disco engine and is getting an overdrive. It looks like you have a good digital camera, make sure to take pics of every part you pull off the truck so you know where it goes when the time comes to put it back on. Are you going to keep it RHD or convert it?

Yeah, I've decided to keep it RHD. I've been sitting in it pretending to drive it..lol...and I feel really comfortable in it.

As for keeping everything LR...you bet! Hell, the trucks name is Wilks. Anything otherwise would be like sticking a Ford engine into an original Yenko Camaro.

The Hills are really the only things that worry me. My Disco slows down a LOT but I can always push the skinny pedal further down and get back up to speed. But then the Fuel needle moves more than I'd like it to.

I'm going to begin working in an area 36 miles away from home with nothing but highway travel, so im going to get really comfortable with the right lanes after I begin driving the Series to work.

So tonight, I was doing some more organizing in teh garage when I got curious and wondered if the engine would start in its current condition.

Discovered that the bottom Rad. hose is falling apart and explains the leak at the front end. Removed cap and found no coolant in the radiator.

Check the batteries power and it was only at 5v. Put my optima in there, flicked the ingition switch and it tried to turn over but it seems like something is wrong with the starter. Its as if its not putting out enough power to get the motor to turn over on its own.

I couldnt help myself. I'm going to try and not do anything until I get the garage organized and the workbench set up.

This is going to be one HEK of a fun rebuild!

What mods have you got in mind so far? I'd suggest parabolic springs at the very least if you plan on commuting in it. It looks like you have some long nights of wrenching ahead of you, you need to learn the metal dash bottle opener trick so you can impress your friends while wrenching.

LOL...hmm...Please send me a PM with the specific location for doing this..lol

Well, since an overdrive wont get me goin faster, thats being scratched off the list.

I would like to eventually put a Sals in the rear to handle any off road duty. Parabolics are definitely on the list. Upgrading the Alternator is also a must since I want everything connected at the end of a cable to work.

There's a rolled lip at the bottom edge of your dash, take a glass bottle of your favorite beverage(it helps if it is British Beer) and stick the cap inside this edge so the lip catches on the underside of the cap, tilt up until the other side of the cap touches the bottom of the parcel shelf, the bottom of the bottle should be facing forward. Give a quick flip upwards and then quickly down so as not to spill said beverage and enjoy.
Cheers!
Edit: This needs to be in the Tech & DIY section as all Series II & IIA owners need to learn this valuable skill.

Get the truck running, you can always put an OD in at a later date. You definitely need that overdrive to get any sort of decent speed.

Sounds like you have an earthing problem with the starter. just remember to push the engine stall knob in, otherwise it'll never start!! Also with the series diesel the glow plugs are in series, so if one plug dies none of the rest will work. You can modify the setup quite easily to a parallel wiring setup, but you will need to replace the glow plugs with more modern ones.

Let us know if you have another go. Good fun ain't it?!

What homebased methods are best for getting the frame as clean and rust-free as possible?
