Question Roundeyes headlight upgrade?

Hey peeps,

I've been looking at the vision plus 7" from Hella for an upgrade, but what do you think of these from roundeyes?

The polycarbonate lens looks like a plus since it not as breakable as the Hella glass.

Default Nice.........

I would like to make the front of my D1 look like a Defender but no real kits here in the US market.

This is the Hella Vision Plus 7" conversion:

Hella uses the front of the lamp to diffuse the light while the Roundeyes use the back of the lamp

So the Roundeyes or Hella for a Series:

I have never seen the round eyes.. but have seen the Hella's. They supposedly give great light. I like the idea of glass over the polycarbonate... but I am old fashioned (don'e think that the galss would pit and yellow like the polycarbonate.) WHichever you go with, do yourself a favour and install relays to power the lights. The Hella's will probably do in your wiring circuit in next to no time with the extra power they draw....

I will definitely have them installed by someone who knows what they are doing... still learning things, but I will learn from the install person

I am still deciding and unsure. I may just give the Roundeyes a shot and see how they look on the rover

I may also just have to buy both sets, and swap them around for a comparison as well with shots during the day and during the evening.

I have the Hellas and the difference is amazing. I did not install relays yet but my wiring harness was replaced 10 years ago and I am running a 65 Amp Alt. If you use H4 bulbs they draw no more than the old lamps and won't cook anything as long as you don't have a seriously corroded harness.

Best price on Hellas is rallylights.com

Ditto Kevin and Andrew's comments. I would worry about the poly material pitting and getting cloudy over time. I have the Hellas in several Rovers here and like them alot. Kevin is also right, Susquehanna (rallylights.com) has the best Hella prices. I have a vintage set of Lucas lamps in my @a, and that's the only reason I haven't put Vision Plus on that truck too. I don't think I'd worry about the current draw if your harness is sound.

Kevin, are you sure that they draw no more than the regulars, from what I have read they draw considerably more, and since the old winring on these trucks is sadly undersized to begin with.... All I know, for the price of a couple of relays, and some wire, I would not have to worry about the smoke getting out of my Lucas wiring, as it is a pain to reinsert that smoke...

Lucas has a special tool for that. It's their tool number 00001.

Cibie are very good and can handle the heat of brighter globes.

Hella makes an H4 conversion that I've seen in several series rovers and defenders, not the same as the vision plus but I've heard they are better, only problem is they don't have the DOT molded into the glass so if you got stopped and inspected you might be in a world of hurt, could probably get away with installing a cheap set of sylvania sealed beams for inspection purposes though.

p76rangie, I have looked at the Cibie lights... also another great product.

I have decided to get both the Hella Vision plus and the Roundeyes. Always great to have a spare set to change things up once in a while. I'll throw some pics up when I get a chance
