Default Serial Number

I am having a hard time registering my Land Rover series as the DMV and my insurance company are not finding the serial number in the system. On my bill of sale the previous owner wrote 24111190B and that is what I gave them. When I checked the plate on the bulkhead it looks more like 24111190F. Do I even include the suffix letter after? I think that is what is causing the hold up. Also I have that this is a 1964 Series IIa, is that wrong as well?

thanks

They are not finding the number in their system simply because they are mindless beaurocratic idiots who have zero experience thinking outside the box. I don't know where you live but they sound just like CT DMV idiots.
That's why CT has a VIN verification, where the fat, lazy-assed inspector actually has to get up off his dead butt, put his doughnut down and go out and physically verify the VIN.
The number sounds absolutely correct for the year. Unscrew the plate, photocopy it and mail it to the zombies.

So is it B or F as the prefix? Maybe that is throwing them off, do I use these to register it?

For that year critter, it is a B. Hope that helps. Take the plate with you to verify.

The DMV boneheads here in Michigan couldn't find anything in their system for a 71 Series IIa 88 so mine has been upgraded to a Range Rover!!

heheh I had my revenge on the AZ DMV when I imported my 101. I went along with the attitude that I was going to be there all afternoon and that I would stay until they had done everything correctly and the truck was completely legal. I brought along a folder about 2 inches thick of paperwork showing everything from the MOD cast sheet, the dealer receipts, shipping invoices, customs clearance, tax receipts, build verification from Land Rover, engine details, confirmation from te EPA in Washington about emissions requirements. You name it, I had it.

I had three of them working on it and hunting for a 101 in their books. They had to phone a more senior official and ended up staying 20 minutes past closing which is like a death sentence for a government employee. I even had the inspector come out and lie on the hot tarmac in 115°F heat to read the vin off the chassis wenI could have let them read the plate in the cab.

It probably says something about my character but I quite enjoyed making them jump through hoops.

Jack asses! The lot of 'em.

TerryS's take is dead on. Well put! Sounds like the accounting department where I work.

Here in Indiana, A Series IIa is not even an option as far as a model under the MAKE category in the software program. Mine is considered a 1969, Land Rover, SUV, Other.

God, please don't let them socialize medical care!
