Default Series Choice

hey, i am a seventeen year old looking to buy a series land rover as a farm car for 1 year, then to be insured on the road after one year. I have already made the choice for series but i dont know which one.

series 3 is my favoured one because its the newest design out of the three, but ive been told not to dismiss series 2A either.

i have 1500-2000 to spend and i dont mind spending some of the year that it is on the farm working on it.

i may need to do some long distance journeys (max 180-200 miles)
which series would be best for this and what additions might i need.

i just need lots of information about the two in order to make a justified decision.

also, im based in norfolk so if anyone has a series 2A or 3 for sale i might be interested

many thanks

Roger

Hi Roger - you're in for a pretty fun experience ha ha

The long and the short of it is that a 2a and a 3 are pretty similar beasts. The biggest difference is the transmission - a series 3 is full synchro, so you can drive it like a car, whereas the 2a is only half synchro, so you drive it like a garbage truck

Another good reason to get a series 3 is this: It's newer.

All that being said, you may like what a series 2 looks like more - I know I prefer the front end of a series 2, just from a visual standpoint.

I think older is better. For one thing the older rigs don,t have any smog crap to fight with. What ever you decide on just remember. Rover stuff ain't cheep.

For $2000 you probably won't find a series that will make a 200 mile drive unless you're ready to do a lot of work on it. Runners usually go for between 3-4000 and up.
