Unhappy Series III - Gearbox Problems

Hi I'm a newbie here and to landies,

Just bought a SIII 88" Hard Top, and seem to be having problems with 1st and 2nd, as they crunch as I select then, is this to do with the clutch or the syncromesh. Please help me!

Oh its a 1973 if that helps!

Drewid,
Yeah, I'd think the synchros would be on the way out if the clutch is adjusted properly. Just to verify, try double clutching and see if things quiet down...if so, it's the synchros.

Or it maybe that you have a series 2 box - they don't have synchromesh on 1st and 2nd gears!

Also check you oil levels in your G box - Not just the transfer case!

If it only first and second check firstly its not a s2 box as has been mentioned,if it is a 3 box then its the syncro hub which is shared between 1st and 2nd they can be replaced no problem and are readily available
