Default Series III Gearbox spinning output shaft bearing carrier

When I pulled the mainshaft rear bearing carrier out of my SIII gearbox I noticed that it spins freely in the gearbox casing. Has anyone fixed this "problem" successfully (or knows that it really isn't a problem)? My ideas: 1) use Loctite sleeve retainer (640) when I re-assemble; or 2) cut a groove in the gearbox casing and a threaded hole in the bearing carrier to pin it together (similar to how the Green Bible shows for a SII box - see figs 7:3 and 7:4). Any advice would be appreciated.
