Default Series SOL Lift?

Howdy, im new the the Land Rover community. Just bought a 64 Series IIA. Got it for cheap and its in good shape. Just got it running the other day. I was looking at putting a lift on it. Has anyone done a spring over lift on one? You know like putting the axles under the springs unstead of on the top. I had a 68 Toyota FJ40 that I did one on and it worked great, kept the stock springs and got to use bigger tires. Any information would help.

yeah i read about a guy that did one down in australia without any complaints...you just have to get the spring retaining plates modified so that the shocks can still mount up properly and the mounting points on the axle housing switched around but other than that it's pretty straight forward. hadn't really thought about the drag link hook up though, it could cause you some problems

You would probably have to get a custom double cardan driveshaft and change the pinon angle. The stock u-joints couldn't take anywhere near that much lift in an 88", well assuming you have an 88". I heard it is better to run worn leafs that have flattened a bit rather than new ones.
Also if it is in an 88", and maybe even a 109, the front propshaft may hit the crossmember unless it is modified.

One of the guys in my club here in Ontario just did that to his truck... it has been a work in progress for about 5 years... There were a fair number of issues doing that, but it is possible. Obviously the mounts on the axle case have to be reinforced on the top of the case, drive shaft angles need to be sorted (he also changed engine and tranny, so had even steeper angles to deal with.) I am looking forward to seeing it later in June. I will try and get pictures and more into for you..

Hey guy's thanks for the info. Glad to hear im not the only one wanting to do it. I know it would be a lot if custom work, but for taller tiers, more ground clearance, and nice stance ill try it. I will take notes and pictures and post them when that time comes.
