My rover seems to be running quite rich, and turning down the mixture doesn't seem to help much, it blows some black smoke on acceleration sometimes and the exhaust smells like gas. I have an old solex on it right now that I just swapped back on because my zenith was giving me problems (no power) The solex seems to have solved the power issues, but it seems to be using a lot of fuel.
I'm wondering if maybe I have the wrong jets installed? I have a 120 as the main jet and a 185 as the air correction jet (I think that's what it's called). Does that sound right? |

According to the reference book that I have, the correct jets for the 2.25 Land Rover Solex are indeed 120 for the main jet and 185 for the air correction jet. I fought with my Solex for many, many years before finally giving up and going to a Weber. I always had severe hot start issues.
You may want to check the condition of the starter unit (choke) disc & body faces. If they are leaking, fuel will be drawn through the starter, even when the choke is off. This will cause a rich condition. |
