Default Swivel ball races?

Anyone know where I can get a set of new races for my swivel balls? I don't see them listed on RN or british pacific.

Lower swivel pin bearing/race.....

LR # 217268,

alternative Timkin # K21212 <--- possibly NAPA or the like parts supplier

RNorth # RNA934

One manor of installation..

Placed the bearing / race in the freezer for a while.......Baked the swivel balls in the oven at 350 for 30 min or so.......Pull the swivel balls out and then dropped in the races, using a brass hammer to litely tap in place if needed to insure seated.

Cheers

The upper one is different....... Might have a look at the rebuild kit listed on Ebay to give an idea of the bits included....

That kit doesn't apear to include the races. You wouldn't happen to know the part number for the upper one too, would ya?

thanks!

The bearings come with races....... In the pic, the bearings are sitting in the races. The upper is a not so much a bearing as a bushing of sorts "Ralico"

Upper bushing Part No.

LR 539742

RNorth RNC316

If your out to replace the races, bearings and such, might well consider going with the kit,,,,, Though in the least you'll liable to need shims as to re-set the preload on the swivel pins,,,, The pre-load is needed for stable tracking / steering.

* Operation Manual aka "Green Bible" has a good explanation of how to set the pre-load...... But basically you'll have to add/remove shims from up under the swivel pin on top to achieve correct tension after changing out the races/bearings, Ralico bushing.

Shims

.003 # 530984 RNC258
.005 # 530985 RNC259
.01 # 530986 RNC260
.03 # 530987 RNC261

Cheers

Ooooh, I didn't realize the bearings came with the races. And I guess the reason that I had bearings in the top and bottom of the swivel housing I'm rebuilding is the earlier versions had no railco bush?

I can't really say when they started to switch over to the Ralico style or the " what-for" and such. But had the idea that when most folks switched over when doing the swivels.... Mine already had the Ralico style bushings (74sw) and I'm not familiar with making the switch, but I was of the understanding it's a matter of changing the bushing for the upper bearing.....

Oh, and fine job ! on the 88" looks sweet !.. ...... If and when Chris gets me the front bow for the 109 you'll have to school me up on getting the headliner in wrinckle free......

Cheers

The swivel housings I'm rebuilding came off a 62. I don't think they'd ever been rebuilt.

The headliner is pretty easy to get in without wrinkles. Just put the bows in and rivet them in the corners and then screw in the back part first, then screw in the front brackets with long screws and it will pull tight. Then screw on the vent trim rings and then cut them out using a utility knife. Easier said than done though, it wasn't a very fun job, took me nearly all day to do the front and back.

Rovers Down South has swivel ball races ... prices almost always beat out AB or Rovers North.

Roves down south seems to have lower prices on a lot of stuff.

So am I right in thinking that the railco bushing presses into the top of the swivel ball instead of the race that's in there now?
