It depends on what you mean by all the way out.

But the big thing to think about is.. can you be absolutely sure the bearing is on the fork properly without taking it out enough to get a hand in there and put a plastic staple or something in it.

I had to take mine apart partly due to the PO not using the plastic staple and doing the clutch and bearing in car. So.. I guess it CAN be done. But he failed.

I don't see how one could get a hand in there .. but I didn't try. Its all apart, just hoist it out is my m.o.

Hey, whilst I have your attention. You got any larger pics of your bikini topped rover?

I need to make one of those. As well I'm just curious how they look.

The common concesues is that you can. Unbolt the tranny from the bell housing. Slide it back to the crossmember and supposedly there is enough room to get at everything (even to switch the clutch out..) Now that being said, have not done it, just been told. I still have to do my clutch (all the parts are there, just lacking time..) and I have been reassured many times you can do it that way..... however, i think i am going to pull the whole tranny as it wil make the job easier on my neck which I am having some issues with right now....

i tried that.. it wasn't worth it... very close fit. Its not like the transmission kept its alignment. Have to restab it anyway. hoist with some nylon straps to easily adjust angle work out great for that.

Like pickuprover says, they claim you can replace the clutch without removing the seat base. Somewhere I read it was posible and tried it. I even placed some 1/2 inch sheet plywood so the tranny would slide back in place without getting hung up on the cross member, that worked great. Problem was my overdrive could'nt let me slide it back far enough to get to the clutch so out came the seat box. I could have removed the OD but this gave me an excuse the clean the tar off the tranny and make a better picture for the photo album.
