Default Ticked Off W/Transmission

I'm working on a IIA transmission and am wondering how to handle a stubborn constant gear.

Sourced the parts from Blanchards, who I've been happy with in the past and awaiting word back from them. I specifically mentioned in my large order that I didn't want Britpart or the like. And the design of this constant gear clearly is not original though it's stamped with the correct part number. This is starting to sound more like a rant than a question...so back to the issue at hand.

The layshaft splines are fine (original layshaft, not new though). As a sanity check, the original constant gear slides on the splines without problem, but the new gear - no luck. It will only go as far as the tapered shoulders of the spline, and then it's a firm stop.

I have NOT hammered upon the constant gear, despite a strong desire to do so. About all I can think of is to heat the thing up to 200F and then try to drop it on.

That said, wondering if I'd just be making things worse. I can see light through a couple of gaps between the splines when I set the constant gear on the layshaft, and in other places the gap just feels too small. Worried about trashing the layshaft to get it on there.

FYI - I have of already built up the bell housing and pinion, which would mean pulling the new bearings etc. to switch out the matched set.

Thanks for thoughts/experiences on this one.

I don't know if it matters, but are you sure the gear is for the same suffix box as yours?

Good question. No idea. Though I did specify when originally ordering, yes.

From a visual standpoint, it looks different in the non-contact areas, such as the face of the gear. That said, they're sending a new set today and will include a new pinion bearing. I should have it Monday and will swap the stuff out. They seemed to think it might have been a customer returned item that perhaps had been incorrectly rebinned. Tell tale 'ah ha' for customer service was that there was no heavy grease/preservative on it.

So, looks like this will be resolved. They're a good outfit all in all.

Yeah, I've dealt with them before with good experience. They are a little odd in person, hard to describe, but always willing to help and ask questions. Let me go back in their warehouse to take pictures of the Centaurs they have for sale. Wish I hadn't accidentally formatted the CF card before copying the photos to my computer.

Funny! The centaurs. I saw those on the site when they were advertising them "to make room" for more stock. I haven't thought to look if they ever did part with them. Bummer on the photos. I would have loved to see them.
