Default Very odd techy transmission question

I am doing a strange project and had a question that hopefully someone can answer for me.

I am rebuilding a 1968 Series 2A Dormobile with a galv chassis (Marsland 1-tonne) Salisbury axles, a 200tdi (Defender) motor and (here's the strange part) a ZF4HP22 automatic transmission.

The transmission is from a v8 Disco 1, and the question I have is what parts do I need to mate it up to the 200tdi?

I am trying to find a partno for the ZF4HP22 tranny to 200tdi bellhousing, as well as the torque conveter, flex plate and any bolts that go with it.

My problem is that I am in North America and there is very little information on that combination (as well as being rare as rocking horse sh!t in the UK).

Any takers?

Thanks!

Don

Anything can be made to bolt to anything, but I'm pretty sure the crank bolt pattern on the 200Tdi is different from a V8 crank. You could get a flexplate and TC from a RR or Disco, and have it drilled, I suppose. Another problem I can foresee, is that the governor in the ZF is not the same as one used with the diesels. Might make shifting a little funky.

Thanks for the reply!

The only reason I am going with the tranny from a Disco 1 is to save a bit on shipping costs from having one that matches shipped over here from the UK.

If it is a better match-up to bring over the whole drivetrain behind the motor, I will...

I'm envious because each of the two times I rebuilt my 110, I wanted to go automatic too. It would have been easier, as I was staying with a V8.
The 200Tdi is the best transplant for a series truck. I hope it works out for you.

To the best of my knowledge it will be the only automatic Martin Walther Dormobile in the world... Should be fun!

I believe the auto trans and transfer case used behind the Tdi200 were geared different to take advantage of the diesels high torque/low RPM power band.

What axle ratios are you going to be running?

Steve

I'd have to look them up as I don't have the exact number offhand, but I am using the salisburies out of a series 3 lwb petrol vehicle (1983).
