Here's a puzzle for you all.. I have a 1983 Series III and my mechanic has just replaced the front brake cylinders and shoes only to find that the Series III replacement parts he ordered didn't fit and in fact he had to get Series II parts to complete the job.
Does anyone have any ideas how this could come about? Is it as simple as someone has downgraded the front end to a Series II at some stage? But if so why would you?
What country are you in? In N America Land Rover stopped importing in 1974, an '83 would have been specially imported some how, there aren't a lot of Series III around to steal parts off to keep one going. It could be lack of available parts so available Series II parts were sub'd.
Later Series III's (1980 onwards) had different front brakes than earlier Series III's, they used 109 fronts, which were the same on IIa and III. Did he use SIIa 109 or 88 brakes?

Bingo. Sounds to me like you've got it there Auntie C. I still play around with the older stuff. This new fangled Series III stuff is too modern for me to comment on maybe.
Hi, my s3 is an 83 and it has the s2 type brakes too! i,ve asked around and no-one can give me a satisfactory answer as to why this should be. as i'm in england the lack of parts thing doesn't wash . Will keep looking and let you know the result. Dom
