Default where do i start?

okay, i was out shoping for a mid 90s discovery when i bought this 1964 88" by mistake.
it seems to run great (for now) it has all the usual oil leaks. the new engine has about 2k miles on it. i just ordered new axle seals as they are leaking quite nicely. i've read that the axle shafts break easly or from fatigue. should i replace them? are there stronger aftermarket axles available? the truck will see dirt.
also it looks like the land rover has the same lucas 25D distributor as my MGB.
has anyone put in the Pertronics electronic ignitor ignition into theirs? no more points! it works great on the MG.
thanks
david

Congrats man...

here are my thoughts.... the pex will work well, have heard of many here in Canada that have done it and no compliants... as for the shafts, if you are going to do any serious offroading with it, then have a spare set with you. The 88's have the rover axle in the back, not the salisbury axle which is much tougher. I do believe that there are some after market shafts that you can get for it that might be stronger if you want to do the work to get them to instal. But in all honesty, have not heard of too many shafts breaking (I carry a spare set even for the salisbury, just in case, but I am a parts hog...)
If your axle seals are leaking, make sure that the axle vents are free and clear, sometimes the little balls get stuck and the pressure builds up in the axles, blowing even the new seals... always check these regularily (went through several sets of seals before I figured out it was the vents, not the seals.... but now I am good at replacing them....)
One other thing, go get yourself the green bible (the operations manual) for that truck, it is invaluable for doing any work on the truck....
There is a lot of knowledge here on this site, do not be afraid to ask.... once again, congrats .... welcome to the dark side.....
