There was a similar 109 on eBay awhile back for $56000 starting bid, but it expired and I haven't seen it back. Also this truck was on lrx.com for somewhere in the mid-60s I believe.

I suppose you always want a few trucks that are valued sky high to counter all the 10-20 year old rangies and early disco's that are hitting the skids and lowering the average selling price of our trucks.

Yeah, you see these things come up every once in a while.

When I redid my series truck, it cost me about $15k...doing everything myself. So, I'd say someone who spends $75k on a series restoration has *no* idea what they are doing and paid someone to do all the work. They are now convinced that the vehicle is worth that much, since they spent that much on it...sorry.

Although you might find a sucker with that much money, no series rig is worth over $25k...

Last year there was a series III on Ebay looking for a start bid of $100,000 US dollars. (No, I didn't type that wrong.)

He didn't get any opening bids, by the way.

It blows me away when they ask for very high prices and use comments like "restored" and then go on to say they have installed power steering or dual line brakes, or they stick modern style recovery rings on the front dumper. That sort of thing isn't a "restoration" it is more like a re-build or modernization.

My 2 bits worth.

Had an experience like this in August this year.
A guy advertised a 1978 SIII station wagon (6 cyl) for R30 000. A fair price for such a landy in SA.
So I went to take a look....
At first I was impressed, bulkhead was ok, galvinised chassis & body was ok. Then I got under the truck,
- oil all over,
- G box was leaking
- diffs was leaking'
- Enjin was leaking
- Petrol tank was damaged (something they check for roadworthy in SA so that ment replace)
- sump was damiged
- suspension was sagging
- Enjin was smoking

and the list can go on!

Well after I pionted all of this out to the guy and offerd him R15 000 he told me to bugger off.
He said " you know as much about landys as I do, you are not going to buy my landy for R30 000, so stop wasting my time. I will find some a$$hole to pay me R30 000 for this"

I nearly assulted him for bringing all Land rover owners in disrepute. I told hom he is a con man and is not worth the oxigen that he steals every day!!
