Default 1975 RRC instrument cluster diagram

Well the title does not really explain my problem.

I am rewiring my rig. Unfortunately none of the original wiring nor any usable switches were available. In any case I decided to upgrade the wiring and picked up a universal kit from summit with some much needed switches.

Now I am trying to integrate the instrument cluster into this new wiring schema, but one problem.

For the fuel gauge there is a voltage regulator which is in line with the sender circuit , but the regulator also is grounded from the dash lamps in the cluster, which means I will be feeding the regulator a new source of 12 volts and this connected to its third leg.

Will this not short out the circuit ???

If anyone has tinkered with this please chime in, I need some guidance in this area.

Thanks

./P

I am not exactly sure what your issue is. The regulator will have a power in (12 volts) a power out (around 10 volts from memory) and a earth. The power out powers the fuel gauge. The sender unit in the tank acts as an earth to give the reading on the gauge.

Thanks P76.

I assumed too much on my part. A simpler component would of been a simple zener diode!!!

But hey its 12v+ in on the instrument lights, no problems.

Thanks
