Default 1988 Landrover Range Rover

I am going to look at a 1988 Range Rover this weekend. The guys said it doesnt start but was told by a guy that it needs a new starter.
It supposedly only has 130k miles on it. The guy is asking $600. Ive always wanted a Land Rover and feel like this could be a good buy.

What do you guys think? do you think ill get lucky and it will only need a starter? do you think it will be more? would anyone else jump on this deal? Thanks for your help. -a

A couple of questions to ask yourself... what is your level of mechanical ability? How deep are your pockets? Will this be a daily driver or a toy? How much frustration are you willing to put up with? These things are VERY needy in the maintenance department, VERY expensive to have serviced, and you'll be constantly chasing gremlins. If you can do the work yourself, these things are dead-simple mechanically. They're electrical nightmares. Luckily I live less than a mile from work, I've had to walk a few times!

Location is a big factor. If you are in the salt belt be prepared for a lot of rust.
IMHO, the '88s are a great year. Simpler electronics and the LT230 transfer, but only the 3.5 engine.

^^true..i do miss my '88 tho. def check the rust situation and if you're not up to the task, i'd have a mechanic look it over but for 600 in fair condition(other than it wont start) is tough to pass up.

gl w/whatever you decide and utilize the great rover minds on here, lrr, dweb etc.

All in all it depends on you and your feelings on it's worth. If it's a good solid truck offer $400 and be prepared to replace the engine.
