I have adapted a modern aftermarket stereo into my RRC and would like to pass along the wiring colors in case someone out there was interested in installing a newer radio into their classic. This should apply to 89 RRC's & may or not apply to your model.
The main stereo harness is located behind the switch panel left of the radio opening. The harness can be pulled up with the radio, and once removed I cut the wires about 2 inches from the back of the old factory radio... (in mine a range rover made by clarion... )I took the harness from my new radio and tracked down all the correct wire routes... this is how mine is wired and so far it works/sounds pretty good. These wire colors are listed as the factory harness color & then it's corresponding modern equivalent. Blue = Red (12 Volt switched) should contain a in line fuse (7 amp) Red = Yellow (12 Volt Battery) Black = Black (ground/earth) Left Front White = White + Orange & Blue = White/Black stripe - Right Front Gray = Gray + Orange & Black = Gray/Black stripe - Left Rear White & Red = Green + Orange = Green/Black stripe - Right Rear Gray & Green = Violet + Gray & Pink = Violet/Black stripe - I found no uses for the other wires in the harness, and the amplified antenna is driven from the ignition so that about wraps it up. I hope this helps, Please contact me with any questions/corrections oh and if you just want a "plug & play" harness that will have the correct colors to match your new radio, bha8800 Range Rover harness; Thank You, Harry
