Default 1990 Classic Sound System Question

We just bought a 1990 County and have not been able to gain access to the CD changer. Pressing the "band" button switches between AM and FM, but never displays CD as mentioned in the manual. The CD changer appears to have power as it will accept and eject its magazine. Both wires/cables are connected to the back of the changer. Any ideas?

My best idea.....

Pull that 18 year old POS out, run to Best buy..Or even Wal-mart and get one from the 21st century. That radio wasnt great in 1990, and it doesn't get better with age.

Cd changer connects to head unit with a specialized cable. So extract the head unit and you should see a thick black wire with a blue connector on it. If this is connected to the head unit and its connected to the CD changer, you have a mysterious problem that may cost you dearly to sort out. Your options:

1. Contact Roverville Radio if you want to keep all rover and he'll sort it out.

2. Do what I did: replace the head unit, and throw out the CD changer. Get an IPOD. Which is like a 100+ disk changer. I have my entire CD library at my command from the head unit. Replace the amps and speakers too while your at it.

Thanks for the advice. The cable from the CD changer to the back of the head unit was disconnected. We may decide to upgrade the stereo and all the speakers, but it's good to know that the CD changer is working.
