Default 1994 Range Rover, 4.2L, Rough Idle, Stalling

Hello all,

It's been a while since I have been on here and I love the information that you all have to share.

I just recently acquired a 1994 LWB RRC with a 4.2 engine. When I went to pick it up from the previous owner it all of the sudden would not start. Check for spark, none. Replaced the coil from another classic and it ran. On the drive back to my house, the truck developed a misfire, I have replaced the distributor, coil, amp, cap, rotor, plugs, IAC from another RRC. And I am having a few problems.

If I attempt to put the timing at 8*BTDC the truck will not even start, let alone run. I have to run it at +- 20*BTDC to get the engine to fire. As soon as the the RPM's settle, the truck has a incredible miss, and will not hold an idle again. If I try to move the timing back to TDC (anything less than 15* - 20* BTDC) while it running (kind of) it dies.

This is my dad's truck and I'm trying to help him out. I am open for suggestions.

Thanks in advance,
Shawn

I'm still working this issue, and looking for suggestions. The truck runs great at RPM but has a very rough idle. The timing still cannot be advanced much beyond 15* BTDC before it stalls.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks again.
