Default 1995 LWB Classic w 143K. Is this good?

Howdy,

I have been looking for a Landy here and there and although I would love to get an '04 Disco, I have found a '95 Classic LWB for sale. LWB may not be ideal for off roading, but I am not going to do anything hard. The owner wants $2,300 for it. Is it good giving the following stats?

The bad:

1) Brakes squeal about 50% of the time
2) When running the heater, coolant leaks very slowly near the firewall, and it may be a problem with a hose or the heater core itself.
3) Rear windows don’t go down
4) Rear driver side door handle is broken on the outside – door still opens from inside
5) Cruise control works intermittently
6) A couple of spots of surface rust (fuel door, corner of hood)
7) Undercarriage has some rust spots
8) CD changer works intermittently
9) Drivers door lock sticks and key is required to unlock sometimes – vs. just using keyless entry

The good (replaced parts):

1) ABS Traction Control Sensor
2) Rear brake line
3) Rear rotors & pads
4) Rear Caliper
5) Wheel Bearing Rebuild
6) Grease Swivel Balls
7) Alternator
8) Battery
9) Front Calipers
10) Front Rotors
11) Cruise Control Vacuum line
12) Bumpstops
13) Anti Lock Break Relay
14) Anti Lock Brake Sensor
15) Rear U-joint
16) Right Swivel Ball (all parts)
17) Break Pressure Reducing Valve
18) Front Pads
19) Cruise Control Switch
20) Radiator and PS hoses
21) Ignition Coil Wire
22) Coupling Joint
23) Fan Clutch
24) Tires
25) Coil Springs and Shocks

My major concerns are the rust on the undercarriage, the problem with the coolant when heat is on and the fact that the engine is still original. All this work has been done within past 3-4 years. Given the age of the car, I would take care of the brakes and re-paint it first. Then do other little work if no parts break. My idea would be to give it a lift, install the bumper and re-paint it. But please do tell if something outlined above looks critical. As I said, I'd rather have a '04 Disco or an SWB, but if this is a good deal, then why the hell not

What do you guys think?

Is the leak outside the firewall or inside the firewall?
One is an annoying project.
The other is an eight hour ordeal.

You will need an ECU for the rear windows.
The other issues are common Classic problems.

Hi,

The owner lives somewhat far away form me. I have not seen the car yet and I will make sure to inspect the leak. From what I understand the leak is only when heat is on. Since I am in Cali this is not going to be a major problem. Roverparts sells a complete brake rebuild kit for around $700, I guess I will have to budget for that
