I just got my 95 RRC LWB yesterday. It had a rebuilt transmission installed 2 months ago by a LR specialty shop.
Today, the transmission started acting up and it wont shift out of 1st gear. Itll go to about 3500 rpm in 1st gear and then starts slipping. I read that this problem is usually associated with the governor sticking due to old transmission fluid/filter - but what would cause a freshly rebuilt tranny to do this? Is there a break in period after which the fluid needs to be changed again? I haven't contacted the shop but should it be expected that the tranny is covered by some kind of warranty? Thanks for the replies! |

Most reputable shops will have at least a 12k/12 month warranty on a rebuilt. Many have a much longer warranty period

hell I did my own overhaul on my 87 about 4 years ago when I burnt it at MAR, so far 4 years almost 50.000 miles pulling a trailer with up to 8,000 lbs total load for some 12,000 miles of those 50 and not a single slip,(knok on wood) I have used sinthetyc ATF since the overhaul, probably 1,500 of those are off road miles, filter and oil changes every 12k or once a year which ever occurs first.

Well, seems like I fixed the problem - I floored the accelerator and once the tach hit almost 6k the transmission finally shifted. Been working normally since... Hopefully this wont turn into a reoccurring problem.
