most are "fail closed" type. From my point of view that's crazy; I live in a hot place. There are now available good Tstats that fail in the open position; my choice. In sports and racing cars we always run a stat to keep the water from running through the rad too fast, giving it time to cool. The "Water Wetter" product is also a good choice, although I don't know it's compatablity with coolant; read the lable.

new radiator now is not overheating (that is what the gage shows half way normal operating temp ) checked with the thermometer i get at the most between 195f & 210f(the hottest place on the teromstat elbow (no termostat ) NO LICKS ..!! checked the upper radiator hose.... still hard..!!!bottom one is OK i can squeeze it .
