Anyone done it? Just wondering if the bass of the speaker will be complete crap due to lack of airspace up there? I have eclipse 5.2's or something up there now which sound great but even with my subwoofer the system is a bit trebly, and i have a pair of boston acoustics sitting around that I will either ebay or put to use!
BTW this would be in the stock upper rear speakers of a range rover classic area, I would be cutting bigger holes in the headliner (well, bigger than the holes that i alreayd cut bigger for 6" speakers... thanks for any help...

I would not do it brother. I have revamped my entire system myself and people are truly amazed at the sound quality. What kind of head unit are you using ?
If you are looking for bass, keep it low to the floor of the car(bass tube or box). Keep the mid's level and high. |

I have an alpine cassette head unit, which is controlling a 12disk alpine cd changer, i love alpines sound quality.. just need the speakers to back it up. I would run the 6x9's off an amp though.
And they are 3 way comp 6x9s, and i already have a sub.. so they aren't just for bass, but the system could use some mid range fill since the rest of teh system is just 4 5.7" 2 ways or somehting.

I think that you will be dissapointed with the sound you will get let alone the roof vibrations that will possibly resonate to the front. The sunroof will probably pick it up and vibate when open. Maybe some capicitors inline with the speakers would do better for you. There are frequency blocking capacitors tha will only allow certain freq to go the speaker of you choice individually. I am not sure of the wattage output of your radio or if you have amps hooked up but it sounds that you do already have what you need it just needs to be tweaked a bit. Coincidently,if you meant that you are lokking for Mid-Bass not Mid-Range as I suspect, you might consider a different speaker in the lower portion of the front doors(one without a tweeter) or if you have one with one already disconnect it and get the capacitors I mentioned before. I hoped this helped. Good luck..

I have to do smoething different in teh front doors too. This system was originally in the 87, which has a different front door setup. I currenly only have the lower portion of teh door holding these speakers, and your legs block them and they are so low anyway you have to fade to the front and you still mainly hear the back speakers. Not sure i can fit them in teh stop speaker spot though. maybe i will find tweeters for the top and put some better bass speakers in teh bottom. I just think 4 speakersf or this size vehicle is too little to do the job, especially 4 small ones.
What about fitting teh 6x9's into the lower part of the rear doors maybe? There's not really many good places to put speakers in this car. ![]() I don't think i could fit the 6x9's in teh frotn doors, i would assume anyway. They would be run off an amp.

Drop your headliner in the back. Speakers are surrounded by a foam cylinder. Pull that off & cut away for the 6X9s. Make new rings out of stiff foam, Styrofoam should be easily available. Speaker grills screw in through the headliner into the foam, pretty cheesy, you may want the reinforce this area for the new speakers
