Here is web site that will convert it for you
Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing

Just go to the additional size drop down in the vehicle stock tire size and select 7.5R16. Then click compare tire sizes.

Then you can find tires that are close. its basically a 32X7.5/16 according to the site.

If you actually put in a tire size to compare it too, it will give you a lot of info on the differences as well as speedometer changes etc. Not a bad site to play on. Can even have pictures to illustrate size differences.

In the old tyre sizes like that, they had a profile of 100%. That means that the tyre sits 7.5 inches out from the rim. So the overall diameter would be 7.5 inches X 2 and then the diameter of the rim. If your case the rim is 16 inches. So all up it will be 31 inches.

The site converted to 31.68 so I rounded up. But that definately is a simple way and adds up to 31.

ok so the 7.5 is the width. and the aspect ratio(height) is approximately 100% so a 7.5 gives me a width of a 190 mm tire (15mm norrower than required) but gives me a side wall height comparable to what a 235 85 16 would have. Is there a problem mounting this narrower tire on my 7J stock wheels? ThankYou very much for the info.

That size tire should be mounted on a rim with a 5.5-7 wide rim, not sure if that is the width on the stock YJ wheel, but probably is in that range.
