Default '93 antilock AND traction control STILL don't work...

I changed out all brake pads this past week, and in doing so I pulled both rear ABS sensors, lubed the bushings, and tapped them both back in. I didn't remove the fronts, but tapped on them.

Abs fuses appear intact, no codes on the LED under the passenger seat, but STILL the ABS and Traction Control lights on the dash stay on.

Kinda bummed because (2) cool features of my truck don't work, but I've been driving it like this for a good 6 mo, and will probably continue.

Where might I check next? Any way to tell if a sensor itself is bad?

the display under the passenger seat is only for engine trouble codes. you will need to use a jumper and count the ABS light flashes to get the ABS codes.

Default nice handle...

Thank you, Mr. 76FJ55.

I sold a rust-free '71 FJ55 to buy my current '93 RRC LWB. Can't say I regret it, although believe it or not, that 55 had less squeaks and rattles than my RRC. It didn't have any plastic interior trim to squeak like hell. It also got better mileage!!

I sure miss my old 55. Would love to have another. I got my RRC after selling the 55, just couldn't justify driving the 55 as rust had taken a serious toll on mine. how long ago did you sell yours, and if you don't mind me asking what did you get for a rust free example?

This was mine when I sold it.

I'll have to dig up a pic of mine, it was a sad day when I sold it. But the truth was that I drove it very little between dragging it to CT from AZ 12 years ago, and swapping in a 4-sp and experimenting with various overdive units, and continually fighting with the drum brakes.....

It got to a point where the kids were getting old enough to have to drive them around to baseball, fishing, hockey, b-day parties, etc, and the 55 was just too primitive to drive them safely, no matter how much I tried to justify it.

So I posted it on Ebay, and you know what they say; it's really worth only what someone is willing to pay for it. Although you see them today at insane prices, this was 2 yrs ago, and I got I think 5k for it.

5K isn't much for a rust-free AZ original '71 truck with a 4-sp, Fairey OD, and Warn Belleview winch on the front, but that's what the market said, and I got my current '93 (which now has an 11k TMax winch on the front) for less than 4k all told. Better all -around for the family.

Never look back! That's what they say, but I still look back on that 55 as a "maybe I shoulda kept it..."

Guy that bought it still has it, and says he's thinking of selling it because it just sits there.

Can't say I'm in a position to buy another vehicle, but can't help being curious about what he wants for it and it's current condition. If you speak to him again have him shoot me an email at sdirnberger@hotmail.com.

Seeing those old, and frankly archaic, Toyota's really brings home just how damn amazing the Range Rover was when it launched in 1970.
