Greetings,
I have a 94 classic with an idle issue. Periodically, whenever, I stop, the engine begins to idle roughly and at times quits. There is a strong odor coming from the exhaust...No smoke just a strong odor like it is perhaps burning too lean. This problem may go on for a couple of weeks and then the engine seems to idle fine. Any thoughts?? |

You would be well served once you remove & clean that IAV to disconnect the battery for a few minutes to re-set the computer.
Are you ever getting the "EFI" light? If that doesn't smooth it out you may have bad O2 sensors. Harry

O2 sensors, Here are a couple of pictures. They are on the upper side of the exhaust pipes after they leave the exhaust manifolds. they look like 2 inch long cylindrical things with wires coming out of them.
The pass side is easier to see, the drivers is hidden but if you look down undr the steering shaft you'll see it. I'm trying to get a better picture of the drivers side one but If you see the pass side first it will give you the idea. in the first picture, it's the thing right in the middle, in the second it's hiding down there, just follow the pipe. I think I need a pair myself. Harry

You really can't miss them.
Just follow the exhaust out of both sides and right there on top before the intersection of the pipes you will find the evil little bastards. |
