Default 96 RR front oil leak

Hello everyone,

I just bought a 1996 Range Rover with 147,000 mi on it for, $5600. The owner paid up to $200 to help with the oil leak problem but all that repair did was slow the leak to almost nothing. The repair shop specializes in Rover so I trust thwy know what they are doing.

The repair man said the oil is coming from a 'pulley' in the front of the RR, I've never heard of anything like this, but then again I've never owned a rover. He replaced the gasket on this 'pulley' and said it should fix the problem, but 2 days after the repair, the oil started to drop again, a lot less than before though. Maybe 2 drops over night. I'd like to have 0 drops. Any ideas?

JHall

ps: he said a belt was lose that he tightened as well.

Well, as long as it's nothing bad, I wouldn't be too worried. Range Rovers are British cars, and for some reason, the brits haven't mastered the whole gasket/valve thing. If it helps, I have a power steering leak (like almost every other classic!). If I was me, I would forget about the drops of oil and start saving for the next thing that will go wrong =)

its not a leak. Its rust protection. I agree, put down some cardboard and watch your fluid levels.

I had the same problem on my 98....the front main seal or crank seal is what your mechanic probably replaced... Mine is leaking too, however if you just had it replaced, theres a good chance it is the front cover seal...which i now have to replace on mine
