Default ABS-BLoody confused

Disclaimer ***Extreme NEWB Q to follow**

OK, my RRC is a 1990, build month is Feb I believe.
Has no sway bars, but supposedly has ABS.

Now, HOW can I find out for sure if I have ABS.
I NEVER got pulsating feeling(in the pedal), but at the same time never had the wheels lock up. Anything I should look for to find out?

Under the hood I have a huge Master cylinder, and some sort of what looks like a black pump horizontal to it?
I don't think I've ever seen ABS lights on my dash.
Could it have been disabled? How do I find out all this.

I am told that if I have ABS then I already have 24 spline? Is that true, or is it that I CAN put 24 spline easier? Im confused.

I should prolly also mention that I have a blue connector that sticks out under my driverseat throught the opening.

Anyway here is the thread on pirate that has me all (towards the bottom)
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...=1#post6286996

Guys on Pirate can be a little, how should I say- Full of themselves.

See I don't know what you mean. My vocabulary doesn't include many of these mechanical terms, I am still learning.
Where exactly are they, what do I need to take off so that I can take a pic of em.

thanks

I'll help ya but stay off pirate with questions like that You need to really know your shite there or risk a major flaming.

The thing in the middle of the wheel with 5 bolts holding it onto the hub is the drive flange, does yours look like this?

The stub axle or spindle is the extension of the axle housing that the hub rides on on its bearings. In this pic the hub is on the floor and the shiny thing is the stub axle/spindle.

Thanks Kevin, much appreciated.
Pirate, is well, Pirate. I've been nrowsing that site even since my Jeep days. It is a whole different ball game there. I don't agree with it, because we all gotta start somwhere, regardless.

Here is what my drive flange looks like(just took pics) looks like.

Those look like 24 spline flanges, easiest thing to do is check by popping that plastic dust cap off with a screwdriver and looking at the splines. I'll post a pic tomorrow of the different stub axles for you, ASB vs NON ABS.

Time for some more pics.
I popped the cap off(almost loosing it in the process) and it loosk like there are quite a few of those (splines) or as I call them 'teeth'. More than 10 for sure.

Here are the pics. Not the best, a lot of grease there.

So if this is the 24spline, that means i have the better, stronger stuff? And I would need a 24 spline locker(TT or Detroit)? That's my understanding.

Just look under your drivers seat for a silver box about 8"x6" that says WABCO on the top. If you have it, you have ABS. Simple enough. Also, when Rover started with ABS in 1990 the half shafts were still ten spline at the diffs. That's what really counts when people talk about ten spline versus twenty four.

Also, look at your brake servo (the thing that your master cylinder attaches to). If it is a big black round thing you don't have ABS. If is is more of a big block with about a dozen brake lines boming out of it you have ABS. You'll see the difference in about a second, no need to pull the flanges.

Take a pic of this area Paul mentioned and post it up.

Just unbolt those 5 bolts on the drive flange and pull a rear axle, it slides right out. Be ready with a rag to catch some 90 weight oil when you do. The difference is that the pre ABS stuff was a slightly different length. If you have a pre ABS truck then you will need to change your hubs and stub axles to the ABS style stuff and fit HD axles if you add a TT or detroit. For axles the best deal is Rovertracks, Paul can supply the stubs and hubs you need.

Is anyone concerned about the color of the grease in that pic?
I think I am.

It's still sorta kinda red. Better than no grease.
