Every once in a while with no pattern I've been able to identify, the ABS will kick in (activate) when coming to a normal stop on dry surfaces. Pulses/buzzes as one would expect it to if on slippery surface, etc. Warning lights for ABS and TC come on after that, but reset once car is restarted. It stops fine otherwise. My wife has said it happens once a week for her, happened to me for the first time on Friday night. Pump turns off after 30 seconds, no other warning lights, nothing else seems amiss... Ideas? Thanks!

I have the same exact problem. The only difference is that my TC and ABS lights have been on for a while and do not turn off. I got a new optima the other day and all the lights still came back on even after the battery was disconnected. Looking forward to people's input on this issue.

My abs light has been on since I got the truck. Sometimes it doesn't come on and that's when I'm scared as my abs will act exactly as you described except mine will hardly stop and I just coast to a stop and wait for it to fault out so I don't run over someone. Mine only acts like that on a rare start up.

My light only comes on after this fault, then resets itself on the next startup of the vehicle. When illuminated, other than the momentary activation of the ABS, it brakes fine. When the error hasn't occured, ABS function is fine.
Anyone experience this - Bueller...Bueller...?

There's a way to pull a fault code off the ABS control under the drivers seat, you jump a wire and it blinks a code if i remember. I found a bad speed sensor using it a few years back. Anyone know how to do this? I'll look for a link.

Tom,
There is a connector under the drivers seat it originates in the Wabco ECU and is for the ABS code reader. Since few of us have the luxury of owning the reader, if you jump the 'black' and 'pink and black' wires with the ignition switch in the on position you will get the ABS light to flash. The way it flashes reveals what is wrong within the ABS system. I have the breakdown of the codes so give me a call and we can try to sort things out. Cheers, Paul PS When are you coming up to the shop? |

If your ABS kicks in for no good reason, you probably have a bad ABS sensor at one of four corners. You have to pull the code to find out which sensor is bad. I had this problem a few years ago and until I got a new ABS sensor, I temporarily disconnected the ABS computer under the driver's seat.
