If my Rover was on Fire, I wouldnt let Al open the hood to piss on it to put it out.

20 hours of Swaptronics, and he still didnt figure out the problem. Butcher!

Actually, seeing as you dont like the guy, you should let him piss on it. Hopefully it will spread the oil/gas around and catch him on fire too....

Just for shits a giggles.

Yeah, I was pissed! I just wanted a replacement one. Al was like "Nope Sorry."

Ok Al, F-U-2!

So, Here is the Sequel. Let me set the scene. Staci ( I think) called him out on not caring about his customers, or something....

If you like the first one....

Not having really dealt with DAP before, I don't see the referenced posts proving much, especially if you read the entire account. Shocks snap, but 2" longer shocks with 3" longer springs. Leaking head gaskets, but no mention of the heads being tested for warpage. The only thing I ever bought from them was an OD. It broke after not terribly long, but it isn't their fault. When I looked inside, it appeared to be a design flaw in the synchro. I welded and ground it and it has been fine since. DAP didn't make the OD, the shocks or the head gasket. They have no control over the manufactures quality control or how a product is used. I don't think other parts places are any better or worse. I had an RN reman engine in my Series. It started smoking after a long life, so I was going to bore it out. Nope, it was .060" over! Normally .040 is the max people take them to, and no one sells .060 rings. Is this RN's fault? No as they didn't rebuild the engine and had no way of knowing how it was rebuilt.
Now I'm not saying it isn't in a companies best interest to take care of the customer no matter who's fault it is, but any more, there are way too many people taking advantage of such policies when their own abuse is what led to the failure. Then we end up paying for it as the retailers have to raise their prices to cover their arses.

My experience with dap is why I don't buy from them. Their customer service was so poor that they didn't even get the first sale.

I usually order from the other suppliers as they are closer, so faster and cheaper shipping, although the only parts I've needed lately for the Rover have been VW parts.

I've been buying parts from Al and DAP since '80 or '81, when DAP was in a garage behind Al's house in Wareham, MA. Never had any issues with parts or service, except a period not long after he sold it and he was mostly out of the picture.

We routinely "eat" money at work for mistakes we did not make...because it's the right thing to do for our clients. Sometimes this is into several thou. $$. However we also routinely get "repeat" customers...and I don't know about you, but in this economy repeat business is huge and will carry us through.

I have never had a problem with them and they are my #1 followed by RN. That being said, it is what it is. Im sure that if i spent lots of money on something and the people who sold it were completely unresponsive to helping i would have a bad taste too.

luckly it hasnt happened, yet....

Al took the time to spend many hours working on my truck for free - or in exchange for lasagna - because he knew I was short on money and really wanted to get my Rover running. I don't like to slag people, so I don't go down that road... if someone does something I don't like, I will generally make my opinion known in private messages or such to communicate the information, but having been a small business owner I know how hard it can be.

That being said, there are a number of people on this forum, ArmyRover in particular, who are offering to help me with my problem, and I can't help but think how absolutely wonderful that is, because it is symbolic of what a community is and should be. I look forward to the day when I can return the favor... and that reminds me that Al did the same thing. He helped me with my problem for free, out of the kindness of his heart. Sometimes we have problems with other people, but it is important to remember that this is a community and we all share a love of Land Rovers.
